What Makes You Happy?

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

We went around the room giving our answers. Self-love. Love. Self-love. Love. Connections. Solitude. Love. Most of everyone’s seemed centered around romantic relationships with either other people or internal love. But does love truly make us happy? One person even went into detail and described that her grandparents were married for 68 years. That is absolutely beautiful! But why do we also associate romantic love when asked about our general happiness? There was still a handful of self-love and solitude answers in addition to love. My first thought to the question of what makes me happy is that self-love is the first step. Finding your life’s purpose is the second. But this third one is the most important and the hardest to accomplish. What makes me happy is truly understanding myself and being comfortable with how I evolve. Living this human experience means that we are constantly changing every moment. The concept of “you” is fluid (Aquarius: 28 Day Journey, Day 4). We are always changing… good or bad.

These past few months I’ve seen a side of me that was not the greatest. I started becoming a product of my obstacles. It wasn’t until a dear friend had to point out that I was making up too many excuses for my behavior and that I was much better than that. And at that very moment, I had to get real with myself. I had to understand that life is going to have many ever-changing moments and I need to be comfortable with accepting that I’m going to sometimes change or react to whatever life events that occur. It’s not that I’m being comfortable with that negative side but being comfortable and patient that I’m going to have some "not so great" moments in my life experience. It’s accepting that some experiences can have a strong impact on how we evolve. To me, happiness is accepting those changes. Happiness is understanding and knowing yourself… flaws and all. It’s being ok with having those “not so great” moments. It’s being patient with your process and growth. Happiness to everyone means many different things. And what makes you happy can also change as you journey through life. Today happiness can be love. Tomorrow your happiness could be freedom. But it makes you think if happiness is something you go find or something that naturally finds you. Is happiness already within us? Does happiness mean being fulfilled in life? How do you know you’re truly fulfilled? There’s no right or wrong answer. Your happiness is whatever you want it to be. But hey what do I know!?
